Bandits rob bus passengers at Leopold St

The police are on the hunt for two bandits who  robbed four female passengers of a Route 31 minibus of $269,000 in valuables at Leopold and Lombard streets, Georgetown on Sunday.

Reports are that the robbery occurred around 12.51 hrs. The victims, ages, 23, 39, 20 and 54, who all hail from West Bank Demerara (WBD) were relieved of their cellular phones, cash and gold jewellery amounting to $269,000.

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) said investigation revealed that the victims and suspects were passengers of the Route 31 minibus destined for Georgetown.

The police said one of the victims related that the suspects joined the minibus at Goed Intent, WBD and one of them sat in the conductor’s seat as he assisted with the operating the door.

While in the vicinity of Leopold and Lombard streets, Georgetown, the police said the suspects asked to be put off.

When the minibus stopped, one of the suspects pulled out a firearm and pointed it at the passengers, demanding that they hand over their valuables, the police said.

In fear for their lives, they complied.

The police further said as the attackers were running away, the armed bandit shot in the direction of the minibus.

Police recovered three suspected 9mm spent shells at the scene.

No injury was reported.
