Three robbed at Leopold and High while buying food

Armed bandits on Sunday morning pounced on three persons while they were purchasing food at the corner of Leopold and High streets, Georgetown and relieved them of a total of $1.2M in cash and other items.

Reports are that the trio: a 50-year-old Chinese businessman of Cemetery Road, East La Penitence; a

30-year-old  businesswoman of Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo and a 42-year-old bus driver of Non Pariel, East Coast Demerara were at a food stall around 08.15 hrs when they were approached by two armed suspects.

According to the police, the bandits pointed their guns in the victims’ direction and demanded that they hand over their valuables.

The victims were relieved of the cash they had in their possession along with their cellular phones, a gold chain and a driver’s licence, the police said.

The suspects escaped on a motorcycle east on Leopold Street.

The crime was allegedly committed by two men. However, they were accompanied by five others who fled the scene on bicycles.

No arrest has yet been made.
