Man remanded over gun incident at Croal St

A man was yesterday remanded at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court over the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Gavin David appeared before Magistrate Leron Daly where the charges were read to him. One charge stated that on June 10th, 2022 at Croal Street and Avenue of the Republic, David had in his possession a .32 pistol, when he was not the holder of a firearm licence. It was also stated that on the said date and place, David illegally had in his possession 4 live rounds of .32 ammunition. David pleaded not guilty to both charges and was denied bail. He was remanded until June 18th, 2022.

According to the Prosecutor, at around 4.45 pm on the day in question, the police were on a mobile patrol around Central Georgetown when they observed David acting in a suspicious manner. The ranks called out to him but the defendant began running away from the scene. The police, whilst giving chase, observed that David pulled out what appeared to be a gun from his waist and threw it into a nearby trench. David was subsequently apprehended and brought back to the site where it was observed he had thrown the weapon. A search was conducted and the gun and the ammunition were recovered. David was then cautioned and arrested.
