The reconstruction of David Rose Street, South Ruimveldt Gardens, has started.

Earlier this month, the Ministry of Housing and Water announced the works as part of $67 million in rehabilitation and drainage works to also benefit Green Heart Street and Cane View Avenue, also in South Ruimveldt Gardens.

A resident, Gail Haynes, in a letter to Stabroek News published in the May 29 edition, had complained that a number of roads had been left with huge potholes and craters due to works for the new Mandela to Eccles highway. According to the letter, there had been no communication with the residents about repairing the roads, although the contractor, Junior Sammy Guyana Limited, had assured that remedial works would be undertaken.

When Stabroek News visited the area yesterday, equipment was on site although workers said that they could not speak.

Meanwhile, in an interview with Stabroek News, resident Kevin Prosper welcomed the works. “I feel much better. So I would not have to walk in water when the rain fall,” he said.

Another resident, Daniel McKenzie, was more reserved about the works: “I feel okay but I’m looking on.”
