Slingerz FC recorded a positive return to local football following a six-year hiatus, defeating Uitvlugt 3-0 on Wednesday at the National Track and Field Centre, Leonora in the West Demerara Football Association Senior Men’s League.

Deon Alfred recorded a double in the rout. Alfred opened the scoring in the 19th minute, uncorking a powerful left-footed strike from inside the right side of the penalty box, which snuck past the goalkeeper at the near post.

Alfred fashioned his second in the 59th minute, dribbling into the left side of the box following a counterattack, before blasting a left-footed shot into the lower right corner.

Matrim Martin then applied the finishing touch in the 79th, racing onto a through pass and slamming his effort past the advancing goalkeeper inside the left of the penalty area. Meanwhile, Pouderoyen dismissed Wales 4-1.

The contest started in the worst possible manner for Pouderoyen in the seventh minute, as Alex Softleighly recorded an unwanted own goal to hand Wales the 1-0 lead, inadvertently directing an initial strike in his attempt to clear the danger, into the back of the net.

Nevertheless, four unanswered goals from Pouderoyen sealed the come-from-behind result. Dwayne St. Kitts equalised in the 35th minute, racing onto a through pass before finishing past the advancing goalkeeper into the right side during a one on one situation.

Eon Sullivan then handed Pouderoyen the lead in the 42nd minute, curling a right-footed shot into the top right corner, after receiving a right-sided pass from Teffon Fraser at the top of the box.

Tyshawn Halley then got into the scoring act in the 77th minute, unleashing a powerful left footed free-kick from the top of the 18 yard area into the far corner. The win was then sealed in the 86th minute, as Kurwin Wright scored in a fortuitous manner following an attempted cross, which sailed into the back of the net.
