The Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI) yesterday launched its ‘Drive Home’ promotion, through which it is offering persons borrowing to either buy or build a house a chance to win a new car.

“This campaign is specifically geared for persons who wish to buy or build, persons who maintain mortgages with other banks and wish to switch those mortgages to us and also persons who have existing mortgages with us…,” explained GBTI’s Business Development Manager Rawattie Mohandeo at the launch.

She said that apart from the car, persons would also be able to obtain discounts from various home furnishing stores which the bank has partnered with so that their homes can be fully furnished.

“…We partnered with the stores…to have your furnishing ready. If you want building materials you can get discount from those stores.”

The campaign, which commenced yesterday will end on July 24, 2022, with a grand drawing at the National Building Expo, where the winner will be announced.

Andre Ally, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Housing and Water, congratulated the bank for making home ownership to Guyanese more affordable and accessible, including through lowering its interest rates.

“This initiative is important because it helps to foster home ownership, which goes a step further than just land ownership…the lowering of interest rates will directly translate to making home ownership easier and more accessible especially to the most vulnerable,” Ally said.

Persons who are interested in the campaign can visit any GBTI branch across the country where they will receive a pre-approval of their loan. They can also call the bank at 231-4400 or visit it online at http://www.gbtibank.com/

At the recent launch of the Building Expo, GBTI announced two new products that will be launched during the expo. These were its ‘Switch Mortgage’ programme, which allows an individual with an existing loan at another bank to move it to GBTI, which will cover the outstanding payments while the individual pays installments to it. The bank has said it expects the programme to be competitive as it is offering lower mortgage rates and no transfer fees.

The company is also preparing to launch its equity programme, where homes can be used as equity for finances to support new ventures.
