I felt the President did not even consider the people of Enmore in his speech

Dear Editor,

I attended the Enmore Martyrs’ activity last night. It was the first time I ever attended and went there to hear the President. I wanted to hear what plans he had for Enmore Estate as it seems that sugar was not coming back to our village. I left the activity disappointed that the President did not even use one sentence in his speech to talk about his plans for Enmore. The President did not even speak about the sugar industry, though he continues to talk about jobs and jobs. For all the talking about jobs, he did not even consider the people of Enmore to me.

All this talking about jobs are nice words but when people are working and cannot eat, does it really make sense at the end of the day. I want to let the President know that people want jobs and salaries to live on. People do not want to work and still have to beg. Is this the country and people the President wants? It seems that the President does not care about the poor but his big business friends. I want to let the President know though, that it is the ordinary people, not the businessmen, who put him in power and it is the ordinary people who he will have to come back to. I hope the tears of us, the people, do not fall on him.

Sincerely,
Serojanie Sookraj
