Taxi driver charged with attempting to obtain $1.1M by false pretence

A taxi driver was yesterday charged with attempting to obtain $1.1M from a woman under false pretence.

Mark Mackenzie, 39, of Lot 55 Henrietta Housing Scheme, Essequibo Coast was arraigned in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court, before Magistrate Leron Daly, where the charge was read to him. The court heard that on June 16th, 2022 at North Road, Georgetown, Mackenzie attempted to obtain the monies from Nishel Sandiford, whilst pretending that he was in position to sell her a motorcar. Mackenzie pleaded not guilty and bail was set in  the sum of $100,000. He was also ordered to lodge his passport and report to the Brickdam Police Station every Monday until the conclusion of the matter. The case was adjourned until July 20th, 2022.
