A 27-year-old pork knocker is now missing and feared dead after a failed attempt to cross the Konawaruk River, in Region Eight, on June 12.

Missing is 27-year-old Samuel Henry, of Lot B 52 Lamaha Springs, Georgetown.

In an interview with this newspaper, a friend of the missing man, who asked not to be named, said Samuel and a co-worker left the camp and were heading to the boat landing when they were informed that the boat wasn’t there. Nonetheless, they still proceeded to the landing.

According to the man, when asked where they were going, Henry and his co-worker stated that they were just going to see the water. Eventually, they decided they would use a rope to go across to their destination.

This newspaper was told that it was usual for the workers to use a rope to cross the river.

Henry reportedly fastened the rope, which was tied to drum in which they had placed their valuables, to his body. However, halfway across the river, a wave hit the drum, causing water to enter, after which the drum sank. Henry, who shouted for help, tried to untie the rope that was tied to him and the co-worker related that by the time he tried to turn around to help, Henry had gone under the water.

The friend stated that by the time Henry’s co-worker got on land for help, the waves must have already swept Henry far away. He stated that nothing was recovered thus far despite daily searches.

A report was made to the Mahdia Police Station.

The man’s wife, Junita Henry, has been awaiting word about him since he went missing.

She explained that while they would speak every other day, she last saw her husband in January of this year.

The couple have been together for four years and have been married for one year.

The wife stated that her husband was the sole bread winner of the home and that he had plans to return home for their anniversary celebration. The saddened woman stated that she needed information on what is being done to help retrieve her husband’s body so that the family can have closure.
