WBD public road littered with potholes and without lights at some sections

Dear Editor,

Please allow me space to highlight two issues affecting motorists on the West Bank of Demerara. The first is the deplorable state of the public road starting from La Grange all the way to Patentia. The road is littered with potholes (quickly becoming craters) and bumps and is in urgent need of repair. In order to avoid these holes we are forced to drive on the other lane, provided there is no oncoming traffic, otherwise we have to come to an almost stop in order to drive over the holes/bumps. The road is especially deplorable at the junctions of Canal No. 1 (before and after the bridge), Bagotsville, Nismes (by the Gas station), Goed Intent, Sister’s Village and Wales (just after the estate).

The second issue is lack of street lights along some sections of the public road due to the fact that at some sections there are no houses only farmlands. It is pitch black at night. This makes it extremely difficult to drive at night especially when facing oncoming vehicles with the high beam/LED light that are blinding. We would appreciate if lights can be installed to aid motorists at night. I sincerely hope my letter is read by the relevant authorities and immediate action taken.

Sincerely,

Davin Appanah
