GBA World Badminton Day tournament concludes

The Guyana Badminton Association’s World Badminton Day tournament ended Saturday with Marlon Chung and Jonathan Mangra winning the men’s Open doubles and Priyanna Ramdhani and Ambika Ramraj securing championship honours in the Women’s Open doubles.

The tournament, which was sponsored by Total Solutions, saw the participation of students from the Nursery Badminton Academy and was graced with the presence of Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Charles Ramson Jr.

In the men’s Open doubles, Akili Haynes and Tyrese Jeffrey settled for the runners-up spot while Jaurel Hendricks/Matthew Beharry and Veerendra Bhagwandin/Anthony Stephens finished third. Matthew Klautky/Nkosi Beaton were superior in the consolation Open men’s doubles with Andrew Browne and Jason Stephney second.

Over in the Women’s Open, Christina Kumar and Ann Perreira finished as bridesmaids while Priyanka Shivnath/Mishka Beharry and Ayanna Watson/Emelia Ramdhani finished third.

Haynes won the boys under-23 singles with Jeffrey finishing as runners-up while Ramdhani and Beharry finished first and second respectively in the girls’ version.

In the under-19 boys category, Matthew Beharry reigned supreme with Jonathan Debidin second with Mishka Beharry winning the female equivalent as well as the under-15 female singles.

Alima Eastman settled for second in the under-19 female singles while Naveah Eastman was second in the under-15s.

Aiden Bhagwandin won the under-15 boys, forcing Gabriel Felix into second place. In the most junior category, the under-11s, John Thomas won the boy’s singles and Eva Bowling the girl’s singles.

Meanwhile, there was special presentation made to Priyanna Ramdhani for her academic excellence after she graduated with a 3.8 GPA overall in Business Management/Sports Management Major.  This award was made possible by Ramesh Sunich and the Trophy Stall family.

Gift Vouchers were also presented by Earl Carribon, General Manager Sol Guyana to the winners of the consolation round of the men’s Open doubles and the first-place winners of the men and women Open doubles category.
