Sixteen Region 10 schools get radios to access ministry’s station

Sixteen schools in Region 10 have received radios to enable them to access the Ministry of Education’s station, EDYOU FM.

A press release from the ministry said that the  Distance Education & Information Unit of NCERD dispatched a team led by Head of EDYOU FM, Phillip Williams to the Upper Demerara-Upper Berbice region to interface with teachers, learners and parents on the benefits of the 24-hour broadcast.

The release said that the team covered 16 schools within the Linden, Kwakwani, Ituni, 47 Miles, 58 Miles and Mabura area. Each school was presented with a radio and more are to be distributed. The ministry said that the exercise will continue across all 10 Administrative Regions in Guyana upon the commencement of the new academic school year.

EDYOU FM, according to the release, is one of several initiatives conceptualised by the ministry to address learning loss across Guyana caused by the COVID-19 Pandemic and provide premium education content to the nation.

The release identified the radio frequencies allocated to each region as – Georgetown – 99.7 FM; Port Kaituma, Moruca, Karasabai, Ituni and New Amsterdam, 89.9 FM. In other regions, it is 99.9 FM.
