North Ruimveldt man held over unlicensed gun

A 29-year-old North Ruimveldt, Georgetown resident was taken into police custody yesterday morning after he was allegedly found in possession of an unlicensed pistol and several matching rounds.

The discovery was made around 00.40hrs during an intelligence-led operation carried out by ranks of Region 4A.

The police in a press release yesterday said that ranks went to the Kitty Public Road, in the vicinity of the Russian Embassy where they observed a motorcar which was proceeding west along the said road.

The vehicle was stopped and a search was carried out but nothing illegal was found, the police said.

However, police said a further search conducted on the suspect’s possessions unearthed an unlicensed 9mm Glock with six matching rounds of ammunition.

The serial number on the firearm was filed off, police added.

The suspect who lives at Osamo Street, North Ruimveldt was cautioned and placed into custody. He is assisting with the investigation.
