Bushlot man remanded over murder of neighbour

A Bushlot, Corentyne man was yesterday remanded to prison after he was charged with murdering his neighbour last week Friday.

The accused, Bhola Jaipersaud, 42, of Lot 184 Bushlot appeared at the Whim Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Renita Singh where he was read the charge of murder committed on Rameshwar Sydney, 47, on July 8, in Bushlot Village, Corentyne.

Jaipersaud, who was represented by attorney at law, Charlyn Artiga, was not required to plead to the indictable charge and as such he was remanded to prison.

He will return to court on August 11 for report.

Last Friday, Sydney, a cash crop farmer of Lot 232 Bushlot Village, Corentyne, was seen fleeing the accused’s yard with a knife in his neck. He collapsed on the road and was rushed to the Port Mourant Public Hospital where he died while receiving medical attention.

The man’s relatives had said that Sydney and the accused were on friendly terms. On the day in question, the accused reportedly visited Sydney’s home and they chatted for a bit after which he invited Sydney to go over to his place to continue the conversation as they would usually do.

However, shortly after arriving at the accused’s house, Sydney, a father of five, was seen with a knife in his neck.

The accused was arrested at the scene by police.
