With a week prior to departure, Guyana’s pugilists have their hard hats on in the gym training overtime to fight for spots on the podium at the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England.

Keevin Allicock, Colin Lewis and Desmond Amsterdam were drenched in sweat when this publication visited their training base, the Andrew ‘Sixhead’ Lewis Gym yesterday.

Under the watchful eyes of coaches, Sebert Blake, Terrence Poole, Lennox Daniels and Cuba’s Francisco Roldan, the prized trio was sparring and working on other facets of their craft.

According to Poole and Blake who will be the coaches of the outfit in England, the fighters are looking sharp and their conditioning and timing are improving with each sweat-drenched session.

Allicock will battle in the featherweight division while Lewis and Amsterdam will lace it up against the best junior welterweights and middleweights respectively.
