Sterling Products workers to get pay hikes

Employees of Sterling Products Limited (SPL) are due to see a 7% increase in their wages for this year and an 8% increase for next year, across-the-board, after the company concluded a two-year agreement with the Clerical and Commercial Workers’ Union (CCWU).

According to a press release from Sterling Products Limited, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will also see increases in meal and snack allowances, along with annual bursary awards.

The agreement was signed on July 8, in the presence of the Chief Labour Officer (CLO) Dhaneshwar Deonarine at the Ministry of Labour, Brickdam, Georgetown. Sterling Products Limited was represented by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ramsay Ali, the Finance Controller/Company Secretary Mahindra Sammy, and the Human Resources Manager Maneka Jacob, while the CCWU was represented by its President Sherwood Clarke, Junior Vice President & Employee Representative Seecharan Sukhu, Union Consultant Gladstone George and Employee Representative Elvis Peters

Clarke, the release said, thanked Ali for ensuring that the negotiation was done in an amicable manner, which resulted in an agreement that is in the interest of the employees.

“I look forward to this continued good relationship that we have with this Union,” Jacob was quoted in the release as saying, before adding that the company holds the interest of its employees in high regard.

Ali, according to the press release, in delivering brief remarks, said that the union has always been welcoming. He also stated that employees of Sterling Products are also enjoying numerous other benefits that were not captured in the Collective Labour Agreement. These benefits include a pension scheme, medical and education assistance plans.
