A police bulletin was yesterday issued for 48-year-old Dexter James aka Limuel Alphanso, the man who is believed to be the prime suspect in the brutal murder of 55-year-old Nariman Latifan.

A Guyana Police Force (GPF) release gave James’ last known address as Campbelltown Village, Mahdia, Region Eight.

Latifan was murdered between July 5th and 6th, 2022.

According to reports, Latifan hailed from Salbora Backdam, Mahdia, and also of Lima Dam on the Essequibo Coast. She was reported missing on July 5 and her remains were found on July 6.

It is still unknown where her body was found and by whom.

Anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of James, is asked to contact the police on telephone numbers 226-6978, 225-8196, 227-1611, 225-2317, 225-8196, 638-8440 or the nearest police station.

The woman’s reputed husband was initially placed into custody but was subsequently released, since information was provided that corroborated his alibi that he was out working,  a source told this newspaper.

Stabroek News had previously reported that the woman’s reputed husband had told the police that on July 5 at about 11:00hrs, he left his wife at home and went out to seek gold in an area approximately 25 minutes away.

When he returned at about 3 pm, he noticed that someone was peeking at him from behind the house, however, he paid it no heed and proceeded into their home. He called out for Latifan but received no answer.

He subsequently noticed that the house was ransacked and Latifan’s hammock had been chopped down. At this point the man said he immediately ran out onto the access trail where he made his way to the police station in Mahdia and filed a missing report.

At about 5.15 pm on the same day, a party of policemen attended the scene and a search was carried out both inside and outside the house. During the search, spots of what appeared to be blood were seen on the floor of the verandah.

The search party then discovered what appeared to be human intestines in an old mining pit located some 100 yards behind the house. Up to this time, Latifan’s body had still not been found.  The intestines were transported to Mahdia’s district hospital where they were examined by a doctor and identified as human intestines

On July 7, the day after the woman’s body was eventually found, a post-mortem examination was performed and two metal objects were removed from her abdomen.
