Police on Thursday found a gun that may be linked to the recent shooting outside of the Mantra Bar in Georgetown.

Two ranks, acting on information received, found the black Glock 19 pistol in an empty lot at Lamaha Gardens, in Georgetown.

In a press release, the Guyana Police Force said that the gun was found in a black plastic bag that was in a food box in the yard, which was fenced. The serial number of the weapon was filed off.

The release further stated the pistol was picked up and the magazine was ejected, revealing no ammunition.

The weapon was then taken to the Alberttown Police Station, where it was marked, sealed and lodged.

Police had earlier reported that a man, Deon Jerrick, was wounded in his left armpit after he was shot by another man outside of the bar, located along Lamaha Street, Kitty.

The force had said Jerrick along with his friends and the suspect got into an argument that resulted in “gun play,” during which both Jerrick and the suspect drew guns and fired.

Jerrick was rushed to the hospital, where he was admitted. His condition was listed as serious but stable.

The 28-year-old suspect, police said, ran south along Lamaha Street but was later apprehended by the police.
