The nine Guyanese beauties competing for bragging rights and the title of Miss Jamzone will be officially sashed on Wednesday at a ceremony at Herdmanston Lodge. The organisers, Hits and Jams Entertainment, last week announced that there were nine contestants for the coveted crown and platform to showcase Guyana’s tourism.

Coupled with the return of the pageant is Guyana’s most anticipated beach affair, Jamzone Summer Break. These events return after a two-year hiatus and organisers promise they will be nothing short of what patrons are accustomed to.

The nine contestants chosen after a rigid application process are Anngelila Corbin, Brianca Lester, Jasmaine Assanah, Jade Mercurius, Shaniya Decosta, Amel Griffith, Phelicia Adams, Omaiah Hall, and Jada Jones.

The pageant will be held on August 13 at a venue to be announced. The young women will compete in swimwear, evening gown, fantasy swimwear, national costume and talent categories.

The fantasy swimwear segment is the first leg of the competition and will be held on July 31, coinciding with the beach party.

In a press statement last week, the organisers said with focus placed on tourism, each contestant will represent a town in Guyana.

“The pageant aims to create opportunities for tourism, promote societal connections and encourage self-confidence among young women,” the release said.

The winner of the pageant will walk away with a brand new car, while the first runner-up will receive a cash prize of $500,000. The second runner-up gets a $250,000 cash prize.

Additionally, this year’s Jamzone has been labelled the Bring Your Own Bottle edition and will be hosted at Kingston Beach. Patrons can take their favourite drink at no additional cost. Coolers packed with drinks will also be allowed but will attract a fee.

The organisers said patrons can opt to party in a cabana or in the general section. Tickets for the cabanas cost $40,000 for a crew and are limited; general tickets cost $2,000.

Tickets are available at Hits and Jams Box Office, Stove Top Restaurant, Fireside Grill, That Look Boutique, Exclusive Styles, Shop and Save (Stabroek), LaRose Boutique and White Castle Fish Shop.
