Sashed Miss Jamzone contestants to compete in fantasy swimwear tomorrow

Ahead of their first leg of competition, the Miss Jamzone contestants were on Wednesday night officially sashed. The sashing ceremony, which saw seven delegates sashed as two have since dropped out of the competition, was held at the Herdmanston Lodge, Queenstown, Georgetown.

The now seven contestants competing in the pageant will on Sunday have their first interaction with the public when they take the stage for the Fantasy Swimwear segment. This event will be hosted during the Jamzone Beach Party at Kingston Beach, Georgetown.

The scores from this segment will be added to the overall score at the grand pageant on August 13, billed for the National Cultural Centre.Two weeks ago, Miss Jamzne organisers, Hits and Jams Entertainment, announced that nine contestants would vie for the coveted crown and platform to showcase Guyana’s tourism. The nine contestants chosen after a rigid application process are Anngelila Corbin, Brianca Lester, Jasmaine Assanah, Jade Mercurius, Shaniya Decosta, Amel Griffith, Phelicia Adams, Omaiah Hall, and Jada Jones.  Corbin  and Da Costa are no longer part of the pageant.

The young women will compete in swimwear, evening gown, fantasy swimwear, national costume and talent categories. In a press statement, the organisers said that with focus placed on tourism, each contestant will represent a town Guyana. “The pageant aims to create opportunities for tourism, promote societal connections and encourage self-confidence among young women,” the release said. The winner of the pageant will walk away with a brand new car, while the first runner-up will receive a cash prize of $500,000. The second runner-up gets a $250,000 cash prize
