Man escapes charge of murdering stepson after COVID finding

After the charge of murdering his stepson was recently withdrawn, Shawn Bobb, 27, pleaded guilty to wounding the victim’s mother and was jailed for two years.

Bobb avoided the charge of murdering Isaiah Edwards after it was withdrawn by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) on the ground that the teen died in the COVID-19 Infectious Disease Hospital.

Bobb appeared two weeks ago  before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court where he was informed that the charge had been withdrawn.

However, an additional charge of felonious wounding was brought against him allegedly committed on Codisha Edwards, the mother of Isaiah Edwards. He pleaded guilty to that charge and was sentenced to two years imprisonment and fined the sum of $300,000.

In February Bobb had appeared before Magistrate Clive Nurse in the city court where it was alleged that he fatally stabbed his step-son, 19-year-old Isaiah Edwards between January 26th and January 27th.

The man was not required to plead to the indictable charge.

According to police reports, Bobb and Edwards had an altercation over him (Bobb) being abusive to Edwards’ mother who was not finished cooking when he arrived home. He then picked up a knife and attacked the mother and son. It was said that both persons sustained injuries while the assailant fled the scene.

Edwards and his mother were then transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital by relatives. After arriving at the hospital, both persons underwent tests, one of which revealed that Edwards was diagnosed with COVID-19, the police had said.

He was immediately transported to the Infectious Disease Centre in Liliendaal where he later succumbed. The police had said then that it was unclear if Edwards had died from the stab wound or the COVID-19 virus.

After the suspect fled, a wanted bulletin was issued for him and the man was eventually caught in a house at Helena #1 in Mahaica, East Coast Demerara. He was seen jumping through a window dressed as a female, complete with makeup and a wig on his head.
