Man remanded to prison over murder of Charlestown mason

Thirty-year-old Alex Nedd appeared in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court last Friday where he was remanded to prison over the murder of Rodwell Philips.

The indictable charge against Nedd was read to him by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan and he was not required to plead. Nedd was remanded and the matter was adjourned to August 25th, 2022.

A wanted bulletin was issued for Nedd last Tuesday, one day after the disfigured body of the 33-year-old mason of Broad Street, Charlestown was found lying along the La Penitence Public Road. The suspect surrendered at the Ruimveldt Police Station last Wednesday with his lawyer, but appeared unrepresented at his court appearance.

A press statement from the police said that the murder occurred between 00:30hrs to 01:00hrs on Monday. According to the statement, a cutlass was found at the scene which the police suspect to be the murder weapon.

The autopsy revealed that Philips died from a stab wound to his heart.
