Man charged with presenting false driver’s licence to GRA

A Buxton man was yesterday released on $70,000 bail for producing a false driver’s licence to the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA).

Andrew Layne, 38, of Cummings Street, Buxton, East Coast Demerara, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court where the charge was read to him.

It is alleged that Layne, on June 2, 2022 at the Guyana Revenue Authority at Camp Street, Georgetown, with intent to defraud, uttered to Aminata Austin, a Senior Clerk within the Driver’s Licence Unit at GRA, one forged Republic of Guyana Driver’s Licence in favour of himself, purporting to show that same was issued by the GRA knowing it to be forged.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge and was released on $70,000 bail, with the condition that he reports to the Vigilance Police Station every Friday until the conclusion of the matter.

The matter was then adjourned until August 16.
