Two held at Kwakwani with 25 lbs ganja

Police ranks responding to a report of noise nuisance on Wednesday arrested two men following the discovery of twenty-five pounds of cannabis at Third Phase, Kwakwani.

The suspects, who were not named are scheduled to appear in court today.

According to a police report, ranks responding to a report of noise nuisance went to Lamp Island, Kwakwani Water Front, Upper Berbice River around 04.00hrs.

Whilst there, they observed motorcar HD 673 driving away.

“The ranks gave chase and the driver of the motorcar drove into a nearby trench causing the vehicle to come to a halt,” the police said.

A search was conducted on the vehicle and two transparent parcels containing a quantity of compressed leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis sativa were found in the trunk.

The driver along with a passenger were taken to the Kwakwani Police Station and then to the Mackenzie Police Station where the suspected narcotics was weighed in their presence and amounted to 25 pounds.
