Poor traffic control for horse racing meet

Dear Editor,

The chaotic scenes as detailed on social media and outlined in letters to the editors surrounding the recent horse race event at West Coast Berbice point to a total lack of preparation and preparedness by the organizers and the ones tasked with traffic control at mega events.

It would appear no pre-planning was undertaken and the ranks on the ground on the day in question were overwhelmed by the enormity of the traffic, and failed to take and make on-the- spot decisions to arrest the out of control situation.   This led to total chaos and confusion resulting in persons not attending the event being caught up in a situation not of their making and being inconvenienced for several hours.

The return of the popular horse race meeting after an absence should have given cause for traffic planning to be done.  Further, the concert which followed the horse race meeting meant large numbers of persons on the roadway and compounded an already disordered and disorganized traffic situation.

Yours faithfully,

Shamshun Mohamed
