A hamper was also handed over to Sawh’s wife.

The accident occurred around 18.55hrs.

The police had said enquiries revealed that motorcycle, CL 4502 ridden by 31-year-old Leon Lewis of Lot 175 Nkrumah Street, Annandale, ECD and motorcar PVV 854 driven by 43-year old Wavell Lamatt of Lot 75 Beterver-wagting, ECD were proceeding east along the southern lane of the northern carriageway of the Lusignan Public Road, when it was alleged by the motorcyclist that while he was riding behind a minibus he suddenly saw a shadow-like figure step out from southern side of the road.

When the bus passed, he was confronted with Sawh crossing the road right in front of him.

As such, he collided with him causing them both to fall on the road sustaining injuries about their bodies.

Lewis then picked up his motorcycle and rode away but was later taken to the Balwant Singh Hospital in Georgetown to seek medical attention where he was located by the Police.

He has since been transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he is currently under police guard.

Meanwhile, the driver of the motorcar told police that whilst proceeding east along the Lusignan Public Road at a normal rate of speed behind the motorcyclist, he saw someone lying on the roadway and he pulled to the north to avoid a collision, but despite his efforts, ran over Sawh.

He then stopped to investigate and discovered a male lying on the road motionless.

The driver of the motor car was also placed in police custody. A breathalyzer test found no trace of alcohol in his system.
