As investigators remain hopeful of cracking the brutal murder of 35-year-old Romeo Randolph and bringing justice to his family, there have been no new leads or arrest since the man’s body was found more than two weeks ago.

Speaking to Stabroek News, Regional Commander of Region #3 Senior Superintendent Mahendra Siwnarine said that although the investigation remains open, there has been no new development.

The body of Randolph, a farmer and boat captain of Hog Island, Essequibo River and also of Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo (EBE), was found on August 7 floating in the Essequibo River with his mouth taped and his hands and feet tied with yellow rope.

A statement from the Guyana Police Force (GPF) had said that a missing persons report was filed for Randolph on August 5 and his swollen and decomposed body was subsequently found on August 7 in the Essequibo River by a 48-year-old farmer.

According to the police, the man’s hands and feet were bound with yellow rope and a 115 HP outboard engine was tied to his body. His head was also covered with a black plastic bag, which was duct taped.

Reports had revealed that the engine to which the now deceased man’s body was found tied to was identified by his common-law wife as his own.

In addition, initial enquiries had disclosed that Randolph had lived alone on Hog Island but would visit his common-law wife and children at Tuschen (EBE) once weekly.

According to his family, they last saw him in person on July 29 but spoke with him via telephone on August 4.

The police had said that later in the evening of August 4, Randolph’s wife received a call from his neighbour who informed her that her husband’s boat was found floating in the river abut he was nowhere to be found.

As a result, the woman went to the now dead man’s home at Hog Island, where she observed nothing amiss, and the boat and engine were intact at the said neighbour. Checks were then made for the man but they proved futile.

According to the police, several persons were questioned but nothing of substantial evidence was found.
