A 50-year-old man died on Saturday after he allegedly struck his head during a dispute with a relative at their North Ruimveldt, Georgetown home.

Dead is Collin Wishart, of Lot 3072 Well Road, North Ruimveldt, Georgetown.

Police yesterday confirmed the fatal altercation, which occurred around 14.00hrs on Saturday, August 20.

The 20-year-old suspect was arrested and is presently in custody at the East La Penitence Police Station assisting with the investigation.

According to a Guyana Police Force report, the suspect related that around 03.00hrs, Wishart began to behave disorderly by hitting the walls of the house, disturbing family members and neighbours.

The suspect said Wishart’s behaviour continued throughout the morning. In the afternoon, the police explained that the suspect was in the yard washing his car when he was allegedly attacked by Wishart, who was armed with a cutlass.

The suspect managed to fend off the attack.

Wishart then walked back to his room and continued his disorderly behaviour while allegedly threatening his 57-year-old sister and pelting her with bottles, the police added.

Upon seeing that, the police said, the suspect pushed Wishart in his bedroom in a bid to calm him down.

However, Wishart began to fight and fell on the bed frame and struck his head.

The police were summoned and Wishart’s body was examined. Injuries were seen to his eye, ear, forehead and a hand.

Wishart’s body was escorted to the Georgetown Public Hospital and subsequently to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home to await a post-mortem examination.
