A Guyana Fire Service (GFS) Investigation has found that last month’s fire at the St. George’s High School was electrical in origin.

Fire Prevention Officer Sheldon Sauns confirmed the cause of the fire to Stabroek News yesterday.

The fire, which ravaged the school building, located along Company Path on the north eastern side of the historic St George’s Cathedral, between North Road and Church Street, in Georgetown, displaced hundreds of students.

The Ministry of Education has started placing students in List ‘C’ schools within the proximity of their homes. The Ministry of Education had invited parents of students of the school to register their children to be placed in schools for the new term. Some of these schools are South Ruimveldt Secondary, West Ruimveldt Secondary, Freeburg Secondary, Plaisance Secondary, Dolphin Secondary, L’Aventure Secondary, Friendship Secondary, Ann’s Grove Secondary, Covent Garden Secondary, Cummings Lodge Secondary and Kingston Secondary.

The Ministry of Education previously reported that parents of 225 learners had turned up to register their children so they can be placed at other schools for the new term.
