Forty-six families who have been squatting at Cameron Dam, West Bank Demerara for decades have been allocated lands in Lust-en-Rust, according to the Central Planning and Housing Authority (CHPA).

At a meeting earlier this year with the families, the Minister of Housing and Water, Collin Croal committed to seeing the relocation process for the families to the end, a release from the CHPA said.

Cameron Dam has been earmarked for road networking and other infrastructure development and as such the relocation was necessary.

At a meeting on Friday evening, a representative from each household was allowed to pull lot numbers and initiate the documentation process. Each family was assigned a plot of land measuring 45×80 feet.

Over the weekend, the families will be accompanied by staff of the CHPA’s Survey Department, for a lot identification exercise.

Earlier on Friday, the Minister engaged residents of Barnwell, Acme Housing Scheme (Vergenoegen), Greenwich Park North and Greenwich Park Railway lands, at the Greenwich Park Primary School. That meeting was geared at updating the residents on the status of their outstanding ownership issues.
