At the conclusion of the first-ever housing outreach on Wakenaam, Essequibo River, the CEO of the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CHPA) stated that over 200 persons expressed interest in house lots outside of the island.

Regions Three and Four were identified as places of interest. Minister of Housing Collin Croal explained that in the coming weeks the ‘Dream Realised’ Housing Drive – Region Three exercise will cater to persons interested in lands outside of the island.

CHPA said in a press release that both Croal and CHPA’s CEO, Greaves, met with Wakenaam’s residents on Monday. In the release, Greaves noted that the CHPA is committed to engaging citizens from every geographical area, as a way of meeting the nation’s housing demand. He further stated that the agency will explore all options possible to cater to the unique needs of the island. Responding to questions about residential lots on the island, Croal stated that the Ministry will explore the possibility of acquiring lands at Wakenaam.

Residents were afforded the opportunity to lodge new applications, update existing allocations and register for a housing option of their choice. Fifty new applications were processed and another 120 persons purchased forms to initiate their application process.
