First monkeypox patient released from hospital

Minister of Health, Dr Frank Anthony  yesterday said that the first monkeypox patient and persons who were in close contact with him have been discharged from the Infectious Disease Hospital at Liliendaal and can now resume their usual schedule.

“Our first patient is now back at home, that patient is non-infectious and can resume work. We had a lot of his close contacts in quarantine, they have all been rechecked, none of them showed any signs or symptoms of monkeypox so they can resume normal activity as well,” stated Anthony in his daily COVID update.

He also added, “Our second patient, we are currently monitoring and once the time is up, we’ll be able to release that patient as well.” The first case of the monkeypox virus was recorded in Guyana on August 22nd, while the second was recorded on August 29th. It was noted that the two cases are not related.
