Turning GuySuCo from a corporation to an enterprise needs a strategy

Dear Editor,

I am a child of sugar and look askance at the rapid decline of what was once Guyana’s lodestar industry. It is not so far off dying-production at historic lows, chaos in the boardroom and in the canefields. Should this be terminal? Does it have to be? I hope not. Use that oil money not for eternal subsidies but to develop new markets, new uses for the land and upskilling the workers for a new oil/gas reality. Turn GuySuCo from a Corpora-tion to an Enterprise. That needs strategy and vision. Who will provide it? Soon?

Sincerely,

John ‘Bill Cotton/Reform
