Minister in the Ministry of Public Works, Deodat Indar yesterday met with a team from British Airways (BA).

BA recently announced that it will be starting flights to Guyana from London in March 2023.

A release from the ministry said that Indar met with Marc James – UK& I Sales Key Partnership Manager, Joan Calenzo – Route Development Manager and Diane Corrie – Commercial Manager Carib-bean. The release said that the High Level team is in Guyana to meet with officials from the Aviation and Tourism and Commerce sectors.

Indar was joined by Ramesh Ghir – CEO of the Cheddi Jagan International Airport Corporation.

During a meeting in August, Minister of Public Works Juan Edghill disclosed that the airline will offer flights via St. Lucia using a Boeing 777-200ER aircraft catering for 332 passengers per flight. Flights are scheduled for Mondays and Thursdays.  The minister said British Airways has commenced the sale of tickets.

Negotiations between the parties moved swiftly after President Irfaan Ali and Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce Oneidge Walrond visited the UK in April this year.
