Former Head of the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) and Commissioner of the Customs and Trade Administration Lambert Marks has died.

Marks died on Tuesday, September 20, according to CANU, which yesterday said it was “deeply saddened” by the news of Lambert’s passing.

The agency expressed condolences to Marks relatives and friends.

“The Customs Anti Narcotic Unit (CANU) uses this opportunity to express its condolences to the relatives, friends and colleagues of Mr. Marks, and those who would have worked closely with him during his tenure at CANU,” the agency said in a statement issued on its Facebook page yesterday.

Being the only member of the unit, Marks was appointed to head CANU in 1994.

“Mr. Marks single handedly built CANU from the ground up and for this he was recognized and held in high esteem locally, regionally and internationally,” CANU said.

He served as Head of CANU up until 2001.

Marks was then appointed to the post of Commissioner of the Customs and Trade Administration.
