GCC defeat DCC to retain NBS 40-over title

Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) stormed to an 80-run win over Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) last night to retain the Georgetown Cricket Association/New Building Society 40-over second-division tournament title.

After winning the toss, GCC decided to bat under the sunlight at the Queenstown-based, DCC ground and posted 219 all out in 38.2 overs. DCC could only manage 139 before being bowled out in 29.5 overs

Battling through a tight hamstring, Martin Pestano-Belle was forced to come off on 48 but resumed to top score with 68 from 70 balls. He struck five sixes and four fours. He added 49 for the first wicket with Deonarine Seegobin who made a run-a-ball 25 before being bowled by Steven Sankar.

Zachary Jodah showed his temperament and absorbed the fall of two quick wickets during his 56-ball 31 while Bernard Bailey struck 30 from 26 balls. DCC gifted the visitors 23 extras as Devon Lord and Timothy Mc Almont had cameos of 15 and 14 respectively.

Sankar ended as the most fruitful bowler, taking 3-19 after removing Lord and Joshua Wade off of successive deliveries. Dexter George, Sachin Singh and Jonathan Van Lange took two wickets apiece.

Carlos La Rose had two early strikes, removing openers Singh and Jadon Campbell but Joshua Persaud resisted with a top score of 40 from as many balls. He struck two sixes and four fours while adding 53 for the third wicket with Shamar Yearwood who chipped in with 20 from 32 balls.  Van Lange and Carlton Jacques made 13 each.

Mavendra Dindyal and La Rose ended with three wickets each for 19 and 25 runs respectively while Larell Parks ended with 2-9.
