A sensational century from Kemol Savory coupled with a solid half-century from Kevon Boodie ensured Essequibo an eight wicket win over the President’s XI yesterday at the Everest Cricket Club ground, Camp Road.

Winning the toss, Essequibo opted to bowl first in the Guyana Cricket Board Senior Inter-County 50-over tournament and contained the President’s XI to 237 for eight from their full quota. Essequibo responded with 240 for two in 41.3 overs.

Kevon Boodie made 92 and supported Savory in a 163 run second wicket stand that basically won the game for Essequibo.

Savory smashed eight fours and three sixes, one of which was belted onto Carifesta Avenue over long on to end the match. He finished on 108 not out from 106 balls.

The left-hander added 163 runs for the second wicket with Boodie who made 92 from 102 balls. The opener clubbed two sixes and 11 fours before being stumped off of left-arm spinner, Akini Adams.

Extras accounted for 19 while Nathan Persaud (11) and Kevin Christian (10 not out) supported.

In the President XI’s innings, batting at number nine, Shamar Joseph ensured his team a respectable total, hitting three sixes and seven fours during his 47-ball 67 not out. Joseph added 97 precious runs for the eighth wicket with Kwesi Mickle who made 40 from 86 balls.

Suresh Dhani contributed 30 from 26 balls before being trapped leg-before to Antony Adams who also removed Jonathan Rampersaud and Zachary Jodah to end with 3-14.

Ricardo Adams also got among the wickets after having both Matthew Nandu (27) and Mavindra Dindyal (10) stumped. He finished with 2-40.
