Officials remain tightlipped on ambulance chicken

Officials have remained tightlipped as it relates to the Skeldon Hospital ambulance which was discovered during the wee hours of last Friday with what is suspected to be smuggled chicken.

The ambulance, PAC 4274, was busted at the back of Number 78 Ram-poor Village, Corentyne.

Regional Health Officer, Dr. Vishalya Sharma when contacted initially had said that an internal investigation was launched after the discovery. Yesterday, Stabroek News was told that the investigation is still ongoing.

Commander of Region Six, Senior Superintendent, Shivpersaud Bacchus, when contacted on the matter would only say that a report was made and that the police are investigating.

When asked if any arrests were made by the police in the matter as of yesterday, Bacchus replied in the negative.

Meanwhile, efforts to contact the Regional Chairman, David Armogan and officials from the Skeldon Public Hospital on the matter proved futile.

Based on initial information gathered, the driver of the ambulance was held by the investigators who made the discovery while a guard at the institution was also being questioned.

A source had noted that the driver claimed to have uplifted the ambulance keys from the guard at the institution. Furthermore, this newspaper was in-formed that the driver of the vehicle would usually have to sign before uplifting the keys but did not do so in this instance.
