Three Corentyne men remanded after found with marijuana under tree

Three Corentyne men have been remanded after being found under a tree with a large amount of marijuana.

The police yesterday said that Tejlall Tejpaul, called ‘Bamboo’, a 46-year-old construction worker of Lot 25 ‘H’ King Street, Nigg Settlement, Corentyne, Berbice; Anand Jagat, called ‘Driver’, a 35-year-old unemployed man of Lot 136 Williams-burg, Corentyne, Berbice; and Tomeshwar Kemraj, called ‘Rambo’, a 36-year-old of Lot 178 Nigg Settlement, Corentyne, Berbice were  arrested on Monday October 10, 2022, and charged on Wednesday October 12, 2022,  with Possession of Narcotics for the Purpose of Trafficking.

The police said that they were arrested under a tree with over 29,600 grams of marijuana during a police intelligence-led operation at Johanna, Black Bush Polder, Corentyne, Berbice.

The charge was laid under Section 5(1)(a)(i) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act, Chapter 10:10.

The Defendants appear-ed at the #51 Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate’s Alex Moore, where the charge was read to them.

The police said that Jagat and Kemraj pleaded not guilty while  Tejpaul pleaded guilty.

They were all remanded to prison, and the case was adjourned until Wednesday October 19, 2022, for sentencing and report.
