Last round, finals of Inter-County tournament moved to Providence

The last round and finals of the Guyana Cricket Board’s Senior Inter-County 50-over tournament has been moved to the National Stadium, Providence, East Bank Demerara.

This was announced yesterday by the Territorial Board who explained that the decision was made due to the current persistent rainfall.

Undefeated Berbice will take on President XI (who are seeking their first win) on Saturday at 09.00 hours while on Sunday, Essequibo and Demerara will clash in a virtual qualifier as both teams sit with one win under their belts.

The final will be played under lights on Tuesday with the first ball bowling off at 14.00 hours.

So far, the competition has seen a series of high scores and individual performances. Demerara’s captain, Leon Johnson, made the highest individual score of 153 in the second round while Berbice’s Anthony Bramble and Essequibo’s Kemol Savory have also scored centuries.

Other individual standouts with the bat include Kevon Boodie (92), Quinten Sampson (85), Jonathan Foo (71), Shamar Joseph (67), Christopher Barnwell (63), Trevon Griffith (63), Bramble (62), Shimron Hetmyer (58), and Tagenarine Chanderpaul (53).

Meanwhile, with the ball, while no bowler has yet copped a five-wicket haul, Romario Shepherd and Steven Sankar each bagged a four-wicket haul for 37 and 49 runs respectively. Suresh Dhani picked up 3-14 and 3-87 while Kevin Sinclair returned 3-35 and 3-42 in the two rounds.

Veerasammy Permaul (3-30) and Ronaldo Alimohamed (3-66) were also among the wicket takers.
