A man yesterday begged a city Magistrate to reduce his bail to $5,000 after he was charged with stealing a bicycle from the Ruimveldt Police Station.

Paul Dainzy (age and address not provided) appeared yesterday in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court before Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus where he pleaded not guilty to the charge that was brought against him. The charge alleges that on October 14th at the Ruimveldt Police Station, Dainzy stole a blue bicycle worth $24, 000, property of the Guyana Police Force (GPF). He was initially placed on $10,000 bail, however he asked the Magistrate for a bail reduction which was then whittled down to $5,000.

Along with bail, he was ordered to stay 100 feet away from the Ruimveldt police station. The matter was adjourned until November 28th. Dainzy yesterday told the court that he had been working at the station for seven days and that the person who was in charge of paying him had refused to do so. Dainzy told the court that he has a “nerve problem”, and in return, he stole the bicycle which he sold to purchase medication.
