Sparta Boss, Gold is Money, Back Circle get wins at MVP Sports Futsal Championship

Sparta Boss, Gold is Money, and Back Circle were amongst the winners, when the MVP Sports Futsal Championship continued on Wednesday evening with the group stage round at the National Gymnasium on Mandela Avenue, Georgetown.

Sparta Boss battled past Team Cruel 4-2. Ryan Hackett tallied a brace in the 1st and 16th minute, while Pernell Schultz and Marcus Wilson scored in the 2nd and 18th minute respectively. For Team Cruel, Shemar Fraser, and Neron Barrow netted in the third and seventh minute apiece.

On the other hand, Gold is Money downed Tiger Bay 3-0. Dexroy Adams, Phillip Rowley, and Darren Benjamin scored in the 7th, 8th and 17th minute respectively.

Meanwhile, Back Circle edged Sophia 3-2. Cecil Jackman, Kelsey Benjamin, and Dillon Kelly, found the back of the net in the 10th, 12th, and 17th minute. For the loser, Lennox Young recorded a brace in the 2nd and 16th minute.

The tournament continues tomorrow at the same venue with another round of fixtures. In the opening match at 20:30hrs, Stabroek Ballers tackles BV, while Vengy engages Sophia at 21:15hrs, and Future Stars takes aim at Tiger Bay at 22:00hrs. In the fourth encounter, Gold is Money locks horns with Mocha from 22:45hrs, whilst Back Circle battles Campbellville at 23:30hrs, and Bent Street opposes Sparta Boss at 12:15hrs.               Group A comprises Sparta, Bent Street, Stabroek Ballers and Beterverwagting (BV), while group B consists of Gold is Money, Future Stars, Tiger Bay, and Mocha Family, and group C contains Back Circle, Vengy FC, Sophia, and Campbellville.

Upon the conclusion of the round-robin stage, the top two finishers and the two best third place teams will progress to the quarterfinal section. Also, the respective group winners will receive $50,000, whilst the second, third, and fourth-place finishers will collect $30,000, $20,000, and $10,000 respectively.

The overall winner of the tournament will collect $500,000, whilst the second, third and fourth-place finishers will receive $300,000, $200,000, and $100,000 respectively, and the corresponding accolade.

The competition will also feature a four-team female component. The competing teams are Santos, Fruta Conquerors, Guyana Defence Force, and Guyana Police Force. The resulting winner will pocket $200,000, while the second, third, and fourth-place finisher will receive $100,000, $50,000, and $20,000 respectively.

The other sponsors of the event include Magnum Tonic Wine, and Lucozade Energy Drink.
