Everest lifts GCA/GTT T10 title

Everest Cricket Club defeated Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) by 10 wickets Friday night to lift the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) GTT T10 title at the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) ground, Queenstown.

Everest won the toss and inserted GCC under lights who were bowled out for 81 in 9.1 overs.

Everest, in reply, duly raced to 85 without loss in 6.4 overs.

Akshaya Persaud removed GCC’s Martin Pestano-Belle and Ronaldo Alimohamed in the second over and they eventually lost their last five wickets for 10 runs.

Mavendra Dindyal top scored with 36 from 22 balls, hitting two fours and three sixes but was caught at long on off of Assad Fuddadin. Joshua Wade was the only other batsman to reach double figures with a quickfire 21 from eight balls.

Off-spinner Richie Looknauth ended with 3-15 while Persaud, Fuddadin and Kishan Tracy picked up two wickets each.

Fuddadin returned with bat in hand and partnered with Matthew Nandu to see Everest to the title. The pair took 16 runs from the first over with Nandu racing to 45 not out from just 24 balls. His innings featured a six and six fours, one of which went through fine leg off of Alimohamed to end the game.

Fuddadin rolled back the years, hitting 33 not out from 17 balls. He smashed three sixes and two fours.

Earlier, Everest knocked out hosts DCC by  registering an eight-wicket win. DCC won the toss and opted to bat first, posting 121 for six from their 10-over quota. Everest then reached 123 for two with four balls to spare.

In DCC’s innings, Peter Perez top scored with 47 from 24 balls. He carved four sixes and three fours while adding 52 for the second wicket with Christopher Barnwell who clubbed four sixes and three fours on his way to 42 from 14 balls.

Tracy again bagged two wickets while Looknauth and Fuddadin picked up one wicket each.

In the chase, Persaud piloted the innings with a composed 62 from 25 balls. The left-hander hit six sixes and four fours while sharing a 72-run stand for the second wicket with Fuddadin who finished on 24 not out from 18 balls.
