Pedestrian dies in Charity accident, teen biker in custody

Police in Regional Division #2 are investigating a report of a fatal accident which occurred yesterday at about 7 pm  on the  Charity Extension Scheme Access Road on the Essequibo Coast.

The police said that the incident involved a Raptor motorcycle ridden at the time by a 17-year-old of Lot 621 Charity Extension Scheme, Essequibo Coast and pedestrian Manniram Sooklall, a 35-year-old labourer of Lot 403 Charity Extension Scheme, Essequibo Coast.

Enquiries disclosed that the motorcyclist was proceeding east along the said access road at a fast rate when he ran over something and stopped to see what it was. The teen motorcyclist said he saw it was a male lying on the northern side on the said road with what appeared to be blood, and he panicked and rode away.

The pedestrian was picked up in an unconscious state and conveyed to the Charity Public Hospital in a Police Force motor pickup PAB 3118 where he was seen and examined by Doctor Chandrika (GMO) of the said institution who pronounced him dead on the said date about 20:45 hours.

The body is presently lying in the Charity Hospital’s Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.

The teen motorcyclist was arrested on 2022-11-03 at 20:25 hrs and is presently in custody assisting with investigation.

The motorcycle is lodged and is to be examined by a Licensing and Certifying Officer.

Further investigation are ongoing.
