Bloomfield woman succumbs to chop injuries, husband arrested

A Bloomfield, Corentyne woman succumbed to chop injuries sustained sometime last evening during a fight with her husband.

Dead is Oma Davi Virasamy, 30, a housewife of Lot 171 Bloomfield, New Housing, Corentyne. Her husband, Mahendra Paltoo, 35 years, a labourer, of the same address was arrested for questioning.

According to information gathered, Paltoo initially claimed that Virasamy was making up the bed for their baby when she slipped and fell on a cutlass which was between two mattresses in their bedroom.

He told investigators that he assisted her by dressing the wound and she later went to bed. However, he woke up about 4.40 am and observed her body motionless on the bed after which an alarm was raised.

However, after further investigations, the man eventually told police that he and his wife had an argument on Sunday evening after she accused him of being unfaithful.

He said during the argument he armed himself with a cutlass and dealt her lashes about her body. She reportedly sustained injuries to her face, under her left eye and on her ankle.

The police are continuing the investigation.
