Stabroek Ballers in major upset

Stabroek Ballers and Bent Street recorded wins in the men’s division while Fruta Conquerors and the Guyana Police Force secured victories in the women’s section of the MVP Sports Futsal championships Saturday evening at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.

Stabroek Ballers upset Sparta Boss 4-3. DaCosta Aboayge bagged a double in the 12th and 18th while Dorwin George tallied a brace in the second and 19th minute. For the losers, Marcus Wilson, Jermaine Junior and Darron Niles scored in the eighth, 13th and 16th minute respectively.

On the other hand, Bent Street humbled Team Cruel 4-1. Colin Nelson recorded two goals in the fourth and 20th minute while Deon Alfred  convertd twice in the third and 16th minute. On target in the loss in the first minute was Shemar Fraser.

Meanwhile, Fruta Conquerors mauled Herstelling 14-0. Sandra Johnson registered a helmet trick in the second, fourth, 18th and 19th minute, while Shania Thornhill tallied four strikes in the sixth, ninth, 11th and 20th minute. Adding doubles were Jessica Teasdale in the eighth and 12th minute and Sabrina Johnson in the 17th and 19th minute.

Assisting with goals in the seventh and 14th minute were Hasha Holder and Jalade Trim respectively. Similarly, GPF arrested Avocado Ballers 6-0. Melina Larson smashed a hat-trick in the third, fourth and sixth minute, while Tiandi Smith scored in the seventh and 14th minute.

Adding a goal in the 19th minute was Collette Hope-Rutherford.

Upon the conclusion of the round-robin stage, the top two finishers and the two best third place teams will progress to the quarterfinal section. Also, the respective group winners will receive $50,000, whilst the second, third, and fourth-place finishers will collect $30,000, $20,000, and $10,000 respectively.

The overall winner of the men’s tournament will collect $500,000, whilst the second, third and fourth-place finishers will receive $300,000, $200,000, and $100,000 respectively, and the corresponding accolade.

The resulting winner of the women’s section will pocket $200,000, while the second, third, and fourth-place finisher will receive $100,000, $50,000, and $20,000 respectively. The other sponsors of the event include Magnum Tonic Wine, and Lucozade Energy Drink.
