UN refugee agency official meets Top Cop

Acting Commissioner of Police Clifton Hicken yesterday received a courtesy call from Henri-Sylvain Yakara, Head of the National Office, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Guyana.

A release from the police said that Yakara was accompanied by  Alexandre Giacullo Lopes, Associate Protection Officer UNHCR Guyana.

The release noted that the primary goal of UNHCR is to protect the rights and well-being of people who have been forced to flee their homes. The thousands of Venezuelans who have fled to Guyana would have likely been a topic of discussion.

The release said that the courtesy call was made at the Commissioner’s Board-room at GPF’s Headquarters Eve Leary.

Also present with Commissioner Hicken was Head of the Strategic Planning Unit of the Guyana Police Force, Woman Superintendent Nicola Kendall.
