Fire leaves Sheet Anchor sisters homeless

Two Sheet Anchor, East Canje Berbice teenaged sisters are now contemplating their next move after a fire destroyed their house on Saturday evening.

Keiasha Reid, 19, of Lot 42 Semple Street, Sheet Anchor Village explained that they went to visit her younger sister in Demerara when they received news that their fully furnished, one-storey house was on fire just around 7.30 pm.

She said that she and her 18-year-old sister occupied the house.

According to Reid, they lost their mother three years ago and have been fending for themselves ever since. “We had everything in that house. We na had a fridge but everything else. The house ain’t had electricity but we had TV, gas stove, everything”, she related.

Reid said it is suspected that someone may have set the house on fire as according to her it was discovered that the lock to the house was tampered with. “We had a lot of valuables, chain and so and all our documents destroyed.”

The devastated young lady then pleaded for assistance from the general public in rebuilding the house. “Since our mother dead we ain’t get nobody, we just asking for help, we need lil help.”
