Good to see Chief Citizen joining the clean-up efforts this time

Dear Editor,

National Cleanup Exercise, lots of photographs and it was good to see the Chief Citizen and team joining the efforts and not boycotting like the last time. It was reported ‘that future cleanup efforts will see the government seriously examining how the country’s drainage system can be improved’ (News Room Nov 12).

Why wait for future efforts, and not now? No clean up can be meaningful with the drainage in the present state. That, perhaps, should have been the first step. Further just how practical was it to conduct the exercise amid the rains and present conditions of communities? As an aside, it would have been thought that ministers would have been assigned wards to spearhead the exercise and they would have come into communities before to mobilize the residents.

Have not seen any such activity, before or during the activity, in my ward of North Cummingsburg. Cleanups are always good initiatives but execution, well that is another matter.

Sincerely,

Shamshun Mohamed
