Fire station, emergency medical service launched on West Berbice

The first Emergency Medical Service (EMS) was yesterday launched in Region Five and a $28 million fire station was also commissioned at Onverwagt, West Coast Berbice (WCB).

Minister of Home Affairs, Robeson Benn commissioned the new fire station and launched the EMS service yesterday morning.

According to a release from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the new fire station is expected to provide a faster response to fire and medical emergencies along the WCB corridor which houses approximately 40,000 residents.

Meanwhile, the ministry said the launching of the EMS is part of the government’s plan to expand the service to all administrative regions.

The modern building will accommodate one fire tender and one EMS ambulance, the ministry said.
